Hi, my name is Devi Spring, and I am a graduate of the prestigous Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork course, and a moderator on the Lucky Mojo Forum. I have been practicing folk-magic since 1997, using knowledge gleaned from intensive independant study and practice, and through instructional interaction with other practitioners of various cultural forms of natural and folk-magic such as Rev. Cat Yronwode and Momma Starr Casas..

The women on my maternal side have long been known to be possessed of various spiritual gifts. My mother is very clairvoyant and is a gifted reader. Clairsentience, claircognizance and clairaudience are the gifts that I have most strongly, but I do have flashes of clairvoyance from time to time, most often when in meditation or ritual. I also am quite capable of communicating and working with spirits, and this happens quite naturally and easily when I set out to make contact. I do not, however, consider myself to be a medium as the spirits are generally not that of those who have passed (with the exception of saints), but rather divine spirits, angels, or other non-physical entities. Some of these spirits, such as Archangel Michael, are constant guides and companions, whereas others I can call upon to work towards various goals.

I feel my practice has evolved the way it has due to my cultural and ethnic heritage. Conjure is very prevalent in the southern US, and I was born and raised in Florida. My maternal family line has been continually present in New Orleans (a hotbed for conjure) since the mid-1800s, and we have a family crypt in Lafayette Cemetery #1 that is still in use. I was brought up on my Granny's cajun cooking and her endless tales of life in NOLA, including more than a few bits of folk-belief. Visiting New Orleans several times, and getting married in Congo Square have helped me reconnect to this magical city that is so much a part of my heritage.

I also have Mexican ancestry, and I always had a deep reverence and facination for Catholic folkways. In my attempts to understand and assimilate that half of my ethnicity, I've researched the practices of Mexican curanderismo and Catholic folk magic. On a recent trip to Oaxaca, I was privileged enough to have a limpia from a traditional healer, who helped me understand my own spiritual practice and make-up more deeply. Since then, I have incorporated some aspects of Catholic folk magic into my practice, and consequently have developed a very beneficial rapport with St. Dymphna, the patron saint of mental illness and nervous disorders, incest and rape survivors, and runaways. I am happy to provide healing and blessing services tailored to these concerns that petition the aid and intercession of St. Dymphna. I also have worked successfully with the very popular St. Expedite, and the blessed Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez.

I was also initiated and trained by a ceremonial magic lodge, and received training in Qabalist ritual magic methods of invocation, evocation, herbs, incense, talismans, etc in a working temple. This is where I re-established a strong rapport with the angelic realm, that had been something my mother had taught me as a child and came naturally at the time, but had faded in my teen years. While that temple has now dissolved, I continue my studies in evocation (though outside of an exclusively ceremonialist context) independently and through exchanging ideas and experiences with other practitioners. Studying and practicing the techniques of esoteric Judeo-Christianity and the Qabalah provides me with a unique, inclusive, and more universalist perspective on energy and spirituality.

I actually earned my Religious Studies B.A. with a focus on the Eastern traditions. The academic work led me into a 7-year journey into Hindu-inspired personal devotional practice. I've done a great deal of work with the IndoPagan communities (those that blend Eastern paths such as Hinduism and Buddhism with various NeoPagan faiths and structures), and am often commissioned to write about topics relating to that NeoPagan niche by BBI Media, as well as being a list owner for several online IndoPagan communities. I am a devotee of Ganesha, Durga, and Lakshmi and feel most closely connected with their energies, and have strong experiences and links with Shiva, Kali, Saraswati, and Radhe-Krishna as well. I have also taken several of the lay vows within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and practice Buddhist meditation regularly. I particularly enjoy aiding people who wish to incorporate work with the Hindu deities into their own path, by helping them find a way to integrate traditional Hindu elements into their practice in order to garner very positive and expedient results, while keeping everything accessible and understandable to a Western mind (as well as respectful of the cultural origins of the deities and spirits). I've found that working with the Hindu deities in a blended practice that includes conjure has been a very potent brew!

Since 2000 I have been a Usui Reiki Master-Teacher, and I have had a successful professional energetic healing practice that focuses on the needs of women. This understanding of energy manipulation and direction ties directly into my spiritual conjure work, and also enables me to provide particularly effective healing and blessing services - including distance healing if requested. Teaching spiritual and energetic concepts over the past decade has helped me hone my skills as a teacher and mentor, and I have been told I have a real gift for communicated complex or abstract concepts in terms that are easy to grasp and put into action.

While I do not consider myself to be religious, I am a deeply spiritual person who is earnestly committed to continuing my evolution and growing continually closer to the Divine. I consider my spiritual path to be gnostic spiritualist - I respect and honor all paths, and believe that each individual's personal relationship with and experiences of the Divine are of utmost importance. I try to live my life by cultivating the qualities of Love and Compassion within myself, and try to live by the maxim 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. My personal spirituality blends esoteric & Hermetic perspectives of Judeo-Christianity, with folk Catholicism, universalist Shakta Hinduism, and Buddhist philosophy and meditation. I'm also pleased to be a member of The Church of Good Luck.
